Are your kids geeks?

If someone called your kid a geek, would you be flattered or offended? That's the question at the heart of my book. In fact, my geek parenting crusade began when I decided to declare loudly and proudly that my children are pretty geeky -- and we're OK with that!
What about you? Are you worried that your kids aren't not popular -- concerned that maybe their social status will hurt their chances for success or happiness?
Or if your kids are socially prominent, do you ever feel pressured to make decisions you don't want to make just because it's the thing to do in your child's social circle? Have you ever said no to something, only to feel like you're the only parent putting her foot down in the name of common sense?
When I speak to parent groups across the country, the thing I hear most often is: "I thought I was the only one!" Parents feel isolated and awkward when we take a stand and declare that we won't allow the culture to sweep our kids downriver on a rush of premature adulthood. The good news is, we're not alone! We have each other -- our fellow geek moms and dads -- and we need to support each other on our geeky journeys.
This is a safe place to be the geek you really are. Enjoy!

At last, I've found it--the book that spells out how I want to raise my kids. I'll be passing it along to our ECFE coordinator and telling my friends about it, because I think raising more geeks is what we need to do as a society. Thank you!

I knew I was raising my kids different, but I didn't have a word for it....now I do!!! The kids don't mind being GEEKS, they see how different our lives are from their friends. Thanks for a great book and I will be buying it for our church library for more parents to raise their kids as GEEKS.
